News From The Yarn Garden!

Head Gardener's Log, February 1st, 2024

Happy #FOFebruary, makers! Join the YG community for a fun way to burn through your WIP (work in progress) pile and get rewarded for it! There's nothing quite like the thrill of a FO (finished object), is there? So collectively, let's chase that thrill together this month and play BINGO while we're at it!
Burning WIP pile
All BINGOs get a prize AND get entered in for the grand prize drawings at the end. Anyone with any 5 squares will qualify for prizes at the end of the month too! Check out the link below for more details and rules to play.

All month long, we'll be focusing on ways to help you work through your WIPs. From social media posts to classes, we've got the resources at YG to help you find the motivation to finish some things. Make sure you tune in to our Facebook live videos every Friday at 11:00am to hear about topics such as blocking, stories about oldest WIPs, and ideas for finishing your projects. This week, I'll be talking about MY WIP plan and thoughts about how to achieve the "Finish a charity object" square on your BINGO card. Do you have a favorite charity to knit or crochet for? There's a post in the "Friends of the Yarn Garden" Facebook group (request to join here, if you haven't yet) to share your favorites. If you can't make it live, make sure you check out the replay of the video (and say hi!) and the Feature Friday Show Notes post.

We're having a lot of fun planning a great month of events and classes for #FOFebruary BINGO. Be sure to check out Karen's mistakes class and finishing class (both offered at 2 different times for your convenience!) to help you with getting your WIP pile under control and ready for forward progress. Check out the Frog Party next Thursday to rip-it together in solidarity (and there may be something beyond checking off a BINGO square in it for you!) or gather together for an all day WIP Work Day on Saturday, February 17th, where Karen and I will be available to help you with your questions. I hope you'll consider joining us for some of these great events. And remember, by attending a class or event at YG in February, you'll earn a BINGO square!

New Yarn!
Two giant boxes of yarn from Baah Yarns arrived just at the end of Feature Friday last week. Inside were some fabulous colors of Mammoth (their SUPER BULKY sw merino wool), La Jolla (dyed in some fabulous assigned pooling colorways) and a BRAND NEW YARN called Halo. It's so new, in fact, that we don't even have it listed on our website yet. Watch the video to catch the details... it's a luscious alpaca, mohair and silk blend.

One of the things I like to share during my Feature Friday live video is what's on my needles. It's been a week of uninspired knitting, with playing yarn chicken and making mistakes in my design process. Ugh! But I did start triangle #2 on the Traveler's Shawl (then ran out of yarn), I ripped out the cowl design I had started (it was too big) and decided the yarn I was swatching with for Gnome River wasn't going to work (it's not heavy enough... darn it!). So I threw all of it in a corner to think about what it had done and cast on an Adventure sock. This sock will get me at least one BINGO square!

I hope you'll join our community and play #FOFebruary BINGO with us. I know it can be hard to be motivated to finish things, but it really is a great feeling to get things off the needles and hooks. And when we come together as a community, we can do amazing things!
