Turn A Square Hat Kits
This classic, striped beanie works up quickly in worsted weight. Featuring four “compass point” decrease lines, the crown visually bends circles into squares, giving this hat its playful namesake. Surprisingly simple jogless stripes turn this basic into an elevated last-minute gift, or a quick solution to cold temperatures for your own wardrobe. We had enough yarn left over to make another hat! Think one for you and one for a friend. Or to make it different; invert your colors for the second hat!

Announcing our next KAL... Big Boho Shawl with YG!

Worsted weight yarn + mosaic knitting + a triangle = big cozy goodness! Pick which pattern speaks to you (or cast on both!) and knit along with Karen and I as we make a boho-inspired, socially acceptable blanket! I have chosen to knit the Courage Shawl, and Karen will be knitting the Boho Style Mosaic Shawl.

Boho Style Mosaic Shawl  by Irene Lin

This will be another hybrid KAL, with weekly meetings on Thursday evenings from 5:30 – 7ish. We will be hosting both in-person and Zoom meetings, based on our participant input (we will create a schedule in our exclusive FB group once the KAL begins). Our first gathering will be in person on Thursday, June 8th, where we'll be making our yarn selections (this meeting is optional... you don't have to wait if you want to pick out your yarns ASAP or if you can't make it at that time). We will cast on and get started with our shawls in person on June 29th.

The cost for this KAL is FREE, but I do ask that you purchase your supplies for the shawl from Yarn Garden. By supporting YG with your yarn purchase, you’re helping ensure that we can stay open to continue offering these fabulous events. Once you've made your purchase, you'll be given access to our private Facebook group, where the KAL will take place.

Yarn Options

There are so many worsted weight yarn options! I'll be building my color palette around a beautiful shade of Ito from Noro Yarns, using either Germantown or Malvinas (or maybe Haunui!). Other ideas include Alegria Grande, Moonshine, Cumulus (from Juniper Moon Farm), Silk Garden (both striping and Solo), and Madara.

If you have any questions, please get in touch via email (yarngardenMI@gmail.com), shop phone (517-541-9323) or YG's Facebook Page!

Other cool things of note!

Need a finishing touch for a hat? Check out the new colors of Furreal Poms here!

Did you miss out on the Spring/Summer Noro Magazine? We had them in stock for a hot second then POOF! they were sold out! We have ordered more and you can reserve your copy here.

We've added some great yarns to the Dirt Cheap Sale Plot... there's some fabulous chunky wools, two great spring/summer yarns and a supersoft fingering weight alpaca blend hanging out there right now! Shop the Plot here.

Be sure to check out our Class page on our website for an up-to-date listing of what's happening. Next month, the second Ravelry class is happening on the15th, followed by Color Theory Adventure, co-taught by Karen Collins and I, on Saturday, June 17th.

What's on my needles
I finished my latest pair of adventure socks, which means I had to cast on for another pair! This time, I am making boot socks, using one skein of Alegria Grande (the color is Huarache) plus a Bocados (a mini skein; the color is Juanita) for the cuff and toe.

Still haven't finished my Tip Top Tank (lacking the brainpower to make some necessary decisions on strap length) but I DID cast on one of the five tees I shared in our last Feature Friday video. I'm using Akari #19 to make the Mystic Square Tee... and it's knitting up so quickly!

And I've started swatching for my first crochet garment, Tourmaline, using Vivo in color #3547. This is another one of the tees I shared during the same video. I'm not actually counting it as a WIP yet, since I'm only swatching. Do you count something as a WIP if you haven't actually cast on the object??
Your Head Gardener,
Lindsay Potter
