Head Gardener's Log, October 15th, 2022
|
Welcome to the Head Gardener's Log! After a big event like the Mid Mitten Shop Hop, we always have an influx of newbies around here. I wanted to take a moment to say hello and to thank you for joining us around here! Read on for details about new yarns, patterns, samples and events happening here in the Garden.
2022 Haunui from Noro
The five new colors of Haunui for this year arrived this week. This wool from New Zealand is a fusion of New Zealand Halfbred and Fine Romney stock, bred specifically for a high quality, high micron count fleece. This line of Haunui yarns is a departure from Noro's usual rainbow of colors, but it delivers on Noro's commitment to preserving the wonders of wool's natural qualities and showcases the beauty of leaving the wool as unprocessed and close to it's natural state as possible. Shop for Haunui here! Find the Brioni sweater pattern on Ravelry here! Find the Haro Shawl pattern on Ravelry here! (Our sample used one each of Haunui and Ito) Shop for Ito here! (colors left to right: Sleigh Ride, O' Christmas Tree, 'Tis the Season, Peppermint Bark, Dreidel Dreidel Dreidel)
Holiday Socks!
Five fabulous holiday-inspired shades of La Jolla from Baah Yarn arrived! Pair a contrast color mini skein for a great pair of socks using the Vanilla Extract pattern from MI-based designer Cassondra Rizzardi. Find the Vanilla Extract pattern on Ravelry here! Shop for La Jolla here! Shop for Footloose Mini Skeins here!
We have expanded our bases to include a dk weight called Clever Gnome. It's a superwash merino and nylon blend, great for accessories like boot socks or mittens, or garments like the Ninilchik Swoncho. Shop for Clever Gnome here! There's also a new product listing called "Gnome River Yarns Preorder", that allows you to order exactly what you need for your next project. You can choose from all three of our standard bases and from our entire palette of 19 colors. You would use this feature if you needed a large quantity for a garment, or if the base/color you want is sold out. Place your Gnome River Yarns Preorder here! Want to hear more about all of the above? Check out the replay from our Feature Friday video over on YG's Facebook Page. I film a live video there every Friday at 11:00am. Please join me for yarn and knitting-related chatter! Watch the replay here!
Knit Companion: What can it do? - An intro class! This 2-hour, hands-on class is designed for those who want to try the free version of the popular app KnitCompanion. Follow along on the large screen as Karen demonstrates some of the capabilities, and learn to set things up on your own device.
Topics include how to:
- link your Ravelry and/or Dropbox accounts and why,
- set up a knit or crochet pattern,
- use the tools available in the free version.
There will also be a preview of functions available in the upgraded version (last 5 minutes only), as well as an opportunity to ask questions! Find more details about the class and sign up here! What's on my needles
An adventure sock! This time, the yarn is called Paint Sock and I discovered that the ball is marked at the exact halfway point with bare yarn. This is done so that the knitter knows exactly where to start to make your second sock match! Shop for Paint Sock here!
I am finished with the gorgeous, geometric lace design on my Oaken shawl and am halfway through the garter stitch border. You can see a progress picture on this week's #wipwednesday post on YG's Facebook Page if you're interested. Fingers crossed that I have a finished object to share with you all next week! Have a lovely weekend, I look forward to serving you soon!
Your Head Gardener, Lindsay Potter
