Sock Camp - Cuff Down Session

Sock Camp - Cuff Down Session
Description: Spend Friday evening and all day Saturday with Karen and Lindsay, as we explore all the ways you can knit socks from the cuff down! Decades of knitting socks has earned them an impressive number of skills and techniques that they can't wait to share with you. Both instructors will teach their preferred sock methods and you'll have the opportunity to try them all.
We will be working from Lindsay's Adventure Sock model, using dk weight yarn and slightly bigger needles. As you learn about the various parts of a cuff down sock, you'll try different styles and make decisions about your sock as we knit our way down to the toe. At the end of camp, you'll take home a copy of Adventure Socks, published for the first time for this event!
Topics Covered:
Cast ons
Styles of small circumference knitting (with the opportunity to try a variety of needles)
Incorporating stitch patterns
How to make adjustments for the perfect fit
Different heels
Different toes
Grafting
Supplies
DK weight yarn, at least 100 grams
US 3 - 5 needles in YOUR preferred small circumference style (you will have the opportunity to try other styles/needle brands!)
Normal knitting notions bag (stitch markers, darning needle, fix-it tool, tape measure, etc)
Writing Utensil for notes (we need to make the second sock match the first! ;) )
Class Expectations
Our hope is that you will leave camp with an in depth understanding of cuff down sock construction. You'll be able to make informed decisions to aid in designing your own sock OR altering a current pattern, as well as adjusting for fit. You'll leave camp with Lindsay's Adventure Socks pattern (written for both fingering and dk weight and in multiple sizes) and extensive handouts/notes, as well as memories from hanging out with your friends and creating something functional and beautiful.
Please note: This class will be held upstairs in the Gnome River Dye Studio (formerly 131 Event Space). The Dye Studio is only accessible by stairs and is not handicap accessible at this time.
