KNSW101: Pre-Sweater 101
So you're ready to cast on for that big project. Maybe you've bought the yarn and all the supplies, and it is just BURNING a hole in your knitting bag. If you're even THINKING about casting on for that sweater without a gauge swatch or measuring your body, STOP WHAT YOU ARE DOING AND SIGN UP FOR THIS CLASS!!*
Topics Covered Will Include:
What You Will Leave With:
Homework: none (see? I'm already a cool teacher)
Supplies*:
*note: you do not actually need to have any intention of casting on for a sweater. The above supplies will simply be for the experience of knitting a gauge swatch and comparing it to the pattern. The yarn can be scrap yarn, but it SHOULD still match the gauge requirements for the pattern. Need help? Just ask!
Topics Covered Will Include:
- Fit (positive and negative ease and what it means for our garments)
- Measurements (how to compare the pattern schematic with our OWN body)
- Gauge (with a little different spin... I promise, you won't suffer)
- Swatching (how and why to do it)
What You Will Leave With:
- A gauge worksheet and your own personal measurements.
- The confidence to proceed with your sweater, knowing you have bent gauge to your will and will create a piece of clothing to fit you EXACTLY like you planned it.
Homework: none (see? I'm already a cool teacher)
