Continental Knitting
Friday evenings from 6:30p - 8:30p
Fee: $45
February 15, 29, March 7
Instructor: Sarah Peasley
Description: Knitting Continental style involves holding the yarn in your left hand and "picking" it, as opposed to holding the yarn in your right hand and "throwing" it (English style). Since both hands are used more equally, it's easier on your hands, wrists and shoulders. Knit/purl combinations can be worked more easily. Once you know how to knit using both English and Continental methods, you are ready to tackle one of those complicated-looking Fair Isle projects! If you're interested in knitting more comfortably or with greater speed, this class is for you! In this class, you will knit a winter hat using the Continental technique.
Introduction to Fair Isle
Friday evening from 6:30p - 8:30p
March 21, 28, April 18, May 2
Fee: $60
Instructor: Sarah Peasley
Description: The Fair Isle technique has been around for centuries. Traditionally, it involves knitting in the round and using charted patterns, while carrying a different color of yarn in each hand. In this introductory class, you will knit a Fair Isle cover for an 18-20" square pillow.
Fair Isle Sweater
Friday evenings from 6:30p - 8:30p
April 25, May 30, June 27, July 25, August 29, September 26
Fee: $90
Instructor: Sarah Peasley
Description: Fair Isle sweater bodies are knit in the round, as tubes. Armholes, necklines, and cardigan fronts are "steeked", which means that they are prepared in some way and then cut open (with scissors!). There are a variety of different methods used to steek Fair Isle sweaters, most of which will be discussed and demonstrated. In this class, you will knit a Fair Isle Sweater. |
